This policy explains what we do with your personal information when you visit upperscoffee.co.uk, buy something from our online shop, sign up to our emails or get in touch.
Uppers Coffee Limited is the data controller. That means we are responsible for how your information is handled.

What we collect
- When you order. Your name, email address, delivery address, billing address and phone number if you give one, plus what you bought and when.
- When you pay. Your payment is handled by our payment provider. We receive confirmation that it succeeded and the last four digits of the card. We never see or store your full card number.
- When you contact us. Whatever you put in the form or the email, and your email address so we can reply.
- When you sign up to emails. Your email address, and a record of when you subscribed.
- When you browse. Standard technical information such as your IP address, browser, device type and the pages you looked at. This is collected through cookies and similar technology.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
- To take and fulfil your order. Because we need to, in order to perform the contract between us.
- To reply when you contact us. Because we have a legitimate interest in answering our customers.
- To send marketing emails. Only with your consent. You can withdraw it at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email, and we will stop.
- To keep records for tax and accounting. Because we are legally required to.
- To keep the website working and understand how it is used. Because we have a legitimate interest in a site that functions and improves.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your information to anyone. We share it only with the companies that help us run the business, and only so far as they need it:
- Squarespace, who host this website and run the online shop.
- Our payment provider, who processes card payments securely.
- Delivery partners, who need your address to bring you your order.
- Google Analytics, which tells us how the site is used.
- Behold, which displays our Instagram feed on the site.
- Our accountant and HMRC, where the law requires it.
Some of these providers are based outside the UK. Where information is transferred abroad, it is protected by the safeguards required under UK data protection law.
How long we keep it
- Order and payment records: seven years, because tax law requires it.
- Enquiries and emails: up to two years after we last heard from you.
- Marketing sign-ups: until you unsubscribe.
- Website analytics: up to 26 months.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use them to keep the site working, remember what is in your basket, and measure how the site is used. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though parts of the shop may stop working properly if you do.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the information we hold about you
- correct anything that is wrong
- delete it, where we do not need to keep it
- restrict or object to how we use it
- transfer it to another provider
- stop sending you marketing, at any time
Email us and we will deal with it within one month. There is no charge.
If you are not happy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you came to us first so we can put it right.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of the page.
